Murdo has welcomed an announcement that new GPs will take over the running of the medical practice in the Carse of Gowrie, following a tender process.
He expressed his delight at the move, which will take effect from September 15.
Deuchar Williams Health Care will take over at the practice from that date and have said they will ensure there is “continuity of care” for patients as the new GPs will be working alongside current staff members.
Commenting, Murdo said: “It is great news to have some clarity about the Carse of Gowrie GP practice after months of uncertainty. Councillor Forbes and myself wrote to NHS Tayside’s Chief Executive in April to ask if the health body could intervene urgently to secure the future of the GP practice in the Carse of Gowrie, so we are both very relieved to be told the practice will be continuing under new GPs.
“The alternative outcome, which would have seen the practice closing its doors, would have left around 3,600 patients with no GP between Perth and Dundee.”
