Action must be taken to address road safety at the Dunkeld and Birnam junctions on the A9. This week I attended a meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Stephen Flynn MSP to discuss this.
The day before I met with Mr Flynn, there was yet another crash at the Birnam junction, this time involving three vehicles. This latest incident follows a summer of crashes and a fatality along this stretch.
At the meeting, Transport Scotland officials made assurances of temporary measures to help prevent further incidents at the junction and on this stretch of the A9. These include looking at temporary traffic lights coupled with lower speed limits on the approach to the Dunkeld junction.
Warning signage on the approach on the A9 had recently been updated and that a temporary roundabout had also been explored but later ruled out due to the extent of works needed to implement this.
I will continue to push for action on this, so that people living in or visiting the area can feel safe driving through.
